We didn’t sit still with pens in our hands,

We learned in the shade, on the soft, rainy land.

The trees were our teachers, the wind knew our names,

We spoke English freely through laughter and games.

We watched how the buffalo would scratch and eat grass,

We saw how the goats nuzzled close to the bars.

We named every action—“eating,” “playing,” “rest”—

Learning from creatures who gave us their best.
