Our 2024-2025 Programs

Wat Phrae Saeng Thian temple Club, Prae
12t-15 September, 2024
Away from the city, into the north, into the world full of green, into the world worth knowing, into the world worth keeping, into the world worth sharing.
On the 12th-15th September 2024, Traidhos Barge Program in association with Wat Phrae Saeng Thian temple, held an afforestation program for the students of the temple’s community service club in Phrae. The aims of the program were to help Thai students in this club gain confidence in sharing the information about their forest with future visitors bilingually, and for the students to learn about the forest connections to water, biodiversity, well-being and natural resources.
Every day, we started our day with a short, fun game to connect students and Barge Program staff before jumping to the main experiential activities which brought laughs and joy to the students and senior members of the temple. However, as each game was being continually played, the students started questioning and understanding the message of each activity.
The messages from the games were mostly on the importance in keeping and protecting the forest, and the connections of the forest to our daily life, the role of trees, and the effects of deforestation. The students said they had a lot better understanding about such topics through the games than in previous classroom lectures.
We learned through experiencing - by walking into the forest, by watching birds. We showed the students how they can prepare as the future teachers and leaders for their own forest, we looked out for signs of life, we traded knowledge among ourselves. The time spent in the forest helped us see the connection between the forest and our well-being, and we had fun making water colors from natural materials.
With everything we had done together, the students came to realize that the time for them as leaders and teachers for their own forest is coming. We showed that they can make QR Codes containing information about the amazing things which can be found in the area as their teaching materials, and we had fun with English role play as the preparation for the visitors who would come in the future.
We are thankful for the welcome we received throughout our stay, and the care we received from both temple members and students of Wat Phrae Saeng Thian temple. We were happy to be working with this community and are excited to witness the students' future self-development.

Australia International School Bangkok, Y5
7-9 October 2024 Y5 Khao Yai
Khao Yai National Park is home to abundant species and offers a unique opportunity to learn and explore the natural world. Embark on an exhilarating journey where every activity is exciting, highlighting the deep connections between nature and humans. From scavenger hunts and exploring nature, to hiking through grasslands in search of animal tracks and signs, the excitement never ends. One of the highlights of our trip was the night safari, guided by expert rangers, where we saw fox, deer, family of elephants and porcupine. The thrill of spotting these animals in their natural habitat under the cover of darkness was an unforgettable experience for everyone. The campfire with marshmallows, along with our performance of the banana song, was also a delightful and memorable moment for us. Every moment in Khao Yai is a step towards a deeper connection with our natural world, reminding us of our role in preserving and coexisting with the environment.

Australian International School Bangkok, Y6
8-10 October 2024 , Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi is a beautiful location for students to explore nature, and landforms such as rivers, caves, and mountains. This is one of the things Y6 got to do when they went on this trip, as they investigated the Lawa cave, the limestone structure and history, while riding on a longtail boat along the Khwae Noi river to get there and observing as they went. One of the most memorable moments was paddleboarding in the reservoir, learning new skills and being resilient when standing up when it was not the easiest for some. The campfire with marshmallows, along with our performance of the banana song, and other special guests performing gymnastics and songs was a delightful moment for us all. Art with nature was another highlight for many as they explored their surroundings and were creative with what they could find. Visiting the Samakee Community on the last day allowed us to be enchanted with our surroundings but also working together to build dams and plant trees in order to help that community, and appreciate what the natural world can do for us. We played many team building games working on communication skills but playing games and having fun with peers is what a residential trip is all about.

ELC Y3
In School Program
22 October 2024
The relationship between nature and technology was explored during an in-school program with ELC. Students investigated the ways that technology works with nature from complex flood gates such as those at Klong Lad Pho, which help to send flood water out to sea quickly; to technology needed to grow hydroponics; to the simple mechanisms of a chicken feeder. Students enjoyed creating rivers in the stream table trays and observing how the current eroded the land and created floods and landslides as they took the role of engineers needing to create ways to prevent the land from flooding.

Berkeley International School G9, Kanchanaburi
We gathered for some fun and cheer,
With team-building games, we faced our fear.
On stand-up paddle boards, we glided with glee,
Then river bobbing brought us joy so free.
As the sun set low, we lit the campfire bright,
Cooking together, our hearts felt light.
Stories were shared, laughter filled the air,
Creating bonds that we all will share.

Chao Phraya River
If you live in Bangkok and are studying rivers, where better to go for a day’s field trip than to the Chao Phraya River - Thailand’s major river that has its source, course and mouth in Thailand.
Students from Berkeley, spent the day observing activity along the river , considering how human action pollutes it, investigating macro invertebrates who make their home in it and thinking about how they should manage their life choices in a way that would show respect and responsibility to the river.
A great day of fun and learning while traveling by boat along the river.
