Household soaps often contain more than 30 different chemicals, many of which are acids - and we use this on our skin! On October 10, Traidhos Three-Generation Barge Program hosted a Biodegradable Soap Making workshop for the public.
During the event we made Effective Microorganism (EM) to use as a base for our products. The healthy bacteria in EM assists to break down the chemicals, making our cleaners biodegradable. We then created liquid body soap, floor cleaner, dish washing liquid, and soap bars. All products used different 'flavours' of EM, including mangosteen and tumeric, to make them environmentally friendly.
Participants of the workshop were excited to see how simple it is to make many of these products, and how we can utilise organic kitchen waste to make EM.
