Pick-up some basic Thai language and learn about traditional Lanna culture and the history of Northern Thailand, including an insight into the unique Hill Tribes and their lifestyles. Visit the bustling and vibrant markets of Chiang Mai for great shopping and a chance to use those new Thai language skills in bartering for gifts.

ARTS AND CRAFTS

Learn about traditional Thai arts while utilizing local wisdom and natural materials around the Prem Center. Begin the day with a morning of crafts by creating Thai lanterns, which are released for special occasions and good wishes. Practice the beautiful art of umbrella painting; form aromatic soap using herbs and flowers collected from the Prem farm, or make your own paper from one of Thailand's most abundant resources, elephant dung. Finish the day by traveling to a local craft center for a relaxing afternoon of batik where you can create a batik print from wax and dye or learn to paint a beautiful design on a ceramic bowl or mug to keep. This is followed by a trip to the famous Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, for shopping and dinner with a large choice of cuisine from all over the world.

Improve your culinary skills with a visit to a local market or the Prem farm to learn about the typical ingredients, vegetables and herbs used in Thai dishes, then return with the produce to the Prem Cooking Academy to prepare a sumptuous meal of traditional northern Thai cuisine. Visit a massage school to find out the techniques of the ancient art of Thai massage, and then explore the atmospheric and colorful Walking Street Market, absorbing the sounds, smells and ambience of this wonderful Chiang Mai Market (weekends only).
