You may be familiar with the ascending call of a large brown and black bird sounding above the noise of cicada, especially in the late afternoon, but you may not know that this is the sound of the coucal, or in Thai language, nok krapood, the bird found on the sign, and lending its name to Mom Tri’s Krapood Kitchen Restaurant, located on the Premburi Estate.
The restaurant, designed by architect and artist, as well as Traidhos Founder, Mon Tri, offers superb Thai-Euro fusion dining in a tranquil, tree-lined setting, with a small organic farm supplying much of the fresh produce served in the restaurant. If you arrive while it is still light, take a short walk to see the farm which is next to the carpark area. The farmers work hard to provide a continuous supply of healthy produce.
Many of the dishes on the menu have been created by Chef Tummanoon, from Mom Tri’s Oasis Restaurant in Phuket. Chef loves creating fusion food and recommends the soft shell crab, tuna tartare, frog-leg salad and tiger prawn salad with tom yum dressing. He is always willing to suggest dishes if you have special dietary needs. Krapood also offers a range of wine that has been selected from ML Tri’s Kitchen in Phuket, a winner of the Wine Spectator magazine’s Award of Excellence for several consecutive years. You can select from a range of fine organic wines from the list or enjoy by the glass. Krapood is a great venue for relaxing at the end of the day and watching the activity of birds, moths and bats as the sun sets. Happy Hour runs from 17.00 – 18.00.
